Everyone should own at least one Sepultura shirt. Better still, one from the canonical 1993 Chaos AD album, with the most staggeringly detailed almost three-dimensional print of Michael Whelan’s album art drawing. As a teen I was obsessed with the insane hidden artefacts in the artwork of this and other Whelan creations (Beneath The Remains, Arise and of course Obituary’s Cause of Death.)
Sepultura eventually turned Whelan’s vision into a huge three-dimensional body bag that was hung onstage in front of their backdrop on the Chaos tour.
Putting the art to the side Chaos AD became the perfect synthesis of the Roadrunner sound - relentless, heavy and diverse - embracing death metal, goth, industrial and everything in between. All committed to tape under the watchful eye of Andy Wallace.
